Let’s talk about email with John Jantsch!

Best email you received today: Received an email from a TV celebrity expressing interest in what we are up to. All I say for now.

Last email you sent: A client wanted to meet to share some ideas on more work. Why yes, I can do that.

Most intriguing subject line you’ve ever seen: John (how can you not at least peek at that?)

Your biggest email pet peeve: No surprise here – support emails that are do not reply!!!!

The word or phrase you most use in your emails: duct tape. 🙂

If you could email any famous person, it would be: Henry David Thoreau so I could let him know that nothing really has changed.

An email you wish you’d never sent: A reply all that was meant to be a reply one – let’s say it wasn’t my finest moment as a human.

To inbox zero or to not inbox zero? Not going to stress over that.

No.1 reason why you unsubscribe: I wonder why I would have subscribed to that in the first place.

Biggest no-no in an email campaign: Cut and paste personalization errors.

The best way to grow your email list: Great, valuable, hyper-relevant content.

One thing that should change about email: Bulk BCC.

What you most love about email: It’s very fast?

His latest book, “The Self-Reliant Entrepreneur: 366 Daily Meditations to Feed Your Soul and Grow Your Business,” is a daily reminder to entrepreneurs that a better you makes a better business.

We wanted to learn more about it, so we asked John Jantsch a few more questions. Among other things, he told us that writing this book was a bit like therapy.

Read on!

What can we expect from “The Self-Reliant Entrepreneur”?

John Jantsch: “The Self-Reliant Entrepreneur” is a collection of 366 meditations designed to both inspire and challenge the reader through a practice of daily soulful reflection.

The book is anchored with readings and quotes from some of the original and most impactful entrepreneurial writing ever created. Authors and essayists such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, and Walt Whitman encouraged individuals to trust and develop the gifts that only they could bring to the world.

What is a self-reliant entrepreneur?

John Jantsch: It is many things, but in a way, it is simply someone who believes that their life is a work in progress.

It’s someone who trusts so fully in their unique gifts and vision that they are able to follow that dream without fear of what others think or say.

It is someone who finds purpose and meaning in experiences that allow them to master their craft. Also, someone who succeeds by being utterly resilient while remaining faithfully congruent.

Finally, it is someone who understands the impact they wish to have in the world and uses that as the ultimate decision-making tool.

What did you learn while writing this book?

John Jantsch: When you write a book this personal you can’t help but come away a different person. I know that may sound a bit dramatic, but writing this book was a bit like putting my entire entrepreneurial experience, good and bad, under a magnifying glass – and mostly that was a very good thing – you know, like therapy.

Another thing that struck me throughout the process was just how timely so much of the writing seemed. I often found myself wondering how they could have been written 150 years ago. So, maybe times and technologies have changed but the human condition remains the same.

“The Self-Reliant Entrepreneur” is out October 22 and you can already preorder it on Amazon (this is not an affiliate link).
